Homeschool Science Days Register View Cart

Bring your homeschool groups outside for hands-on science designed for all ages. Two programs are designed just for homeschoolers. They are called Homeschool Science Days and Homeschool Science Days DISCOVERY HIKES.
 
Homeschool Science Days are station-based with various fun, educational activities. These are drop in programs that begin at 10 am and go to noon. Please plan to arrive no later than 11:30 in order to have time to enjoy the activities.
 
Homeschool Science Days DISCOVERY HIKES  last 90 minutes and cover seasonal topics such as wildflowers, habitats, animal tracking and more.  These discovery hikes are guided and will leave promptly at 10 am.  Late guests will have to catch up.  The hikes end at 11:30 am. 

Dress for the weather. This program will be entirely outdoors, rain or shine.   There is a chance that participants may get muddy.

At least one adult must be present with each homeschool group.

Registration is no longer needed for the homeschool educational series. 

Amphibians
Hop to it! Join us for fun-filled stations all about amphibians! See live amphibians up close! Enjoy games, crafts, and other activities all about our slimy friends. Arrive no later than 11:30.

Slither over to Russ Nature Reserve for stations featuring snakes, turtles, lizards and other reptiles! See our Critter Cove reptiles up close. Play games, make crafts and do other fun, educational activities focusing on our scaly friends! Arrive no later than 11:30.

Creek Exploration
Bring your homeschoolers out to Caesar Ford Park to look for fish, amphibians, insects and more in the creek. Learn about the critters that live in the ripples and which ones indicate the health of our streams. A limited number of nets will be available to borrow for the program. Close-toed shoes are recommended. Late comers follow the signs to find us.

Insects/Spiders
September is the BEST time to look for insects and spiders! The monarchs are migrating, the praying mantises and garden spiders are full-size and every patch of flowers is buzzing with life! In addition to bug hunting, stations will encourage curiosity through games, crafts and other activities. Arrive no later than 11:30.

Hike up a 30 foot Adena Mound and follow the curves of an ancient Hopewell Earthworks as you learn what archaeologists have discovered about these cultures. This hike is not stroller friendly. Starts at 10am sharp. If you're late, go find us. No strollers.

Shelter Building and Honeysuckle Pull Party
Bring your homeschoolers out to learn how to make a debris hut and help us with some land management at the same time. By pulling invasive honeysuckle out of the ground to cover their huts, they will help native plants survive. Debris huts will only stay up until the program is over and then, we will make it look like we were never there.
